Current Television was a television channel in the United States founded by Al Gore and several partners that ran from August 2005 to August 2013. The channel featured artist generated moving image work and short documentaries which were awarded on-air programming via an Audience Choice voting process. Current TV also featured topic specific shows and independent news around issues related to progressive politics.

The Essence is a moving image document capturing the progression and technique inherent in a creative endeavor, while also attempting to apprehend its (indispensable) qualities, both subjective and abstract. It won an Audience Choice Award and was exhibited nationally on the Current Television channel.
