Firmament Collapse was commissioned by the Cinema Revolution Society for the Minneapolis Project, as series of short moving image works which collectively mapped the city's cultural and geographic landscapes. The works in this series each painted a moving image portrait of a Minneapolis neighborhood, detailing and transposing a particular urban zeitgeist through the apparatus of cinema.

Firmament Collapse is an exploration of anxiety and the search for self-understanding in the form of a portrait of experimental hip-hop artist Anonymous Concept (aka Raymond Merchant). The film is also a visual portrait of the Phillips neighborhood. The film's musical score was recorded by Raymond Merchant, but under his another of his many nome de plumes, Mental Instru.
